SUCCESSFUL LIFE
Death is an inevitable fate.
Someday we have to go.
You hope you did
your best in life,
but how are you to know?
It’s not the model of your car
or brand of clothes you wear.
It’s not some fancy, famous name,
sewn in your underwear.
It’s not the square footage of your house
or what you keep inside.
There’s no material you possess
that proves success in life.
It’s everything you sacrificed
and choices you made.
It’s all the problems that you solved,
your lessons from mistakes.
It’s bad times you’ve persevered.
It’s all the fun you’ve had.
It’s any time you’ve ever laughed
and every tear you’ve shed.
It’s any time that you’ve been proud
of others or yourself.
It’s every song you turned up loud,
and every friend you helped.
It’s every wish you ever had.
It’s all your dreams and hopes.
It’s all the books you ever read,
the movies that you’ve seen.
It’s all the stories you told,
The places you’ve been.
It’s every sunset that you caught
and every penny spent.
It’s anyone you’ve ever loved
who mourns you in the end.
It’s all these things
and so much more,
so don’t stress.
If you lived your life
with purpose,
Then it’s been a success.
GONE FISHING
I've finished life choses so I’m off to the river
With my net and bait, my rod and quiver
Where every day will be a day to fish,
And I can fill my heart with every wish.
So don’t worry, or feel sad for me,
I’m fishing now, content and free.
We will miss each other for awhile,
But you will come and bring your smile.
That won’t be long you will see,
Till we’re together you and me.
To all of you who give me a thought,
You’d be proud of what today I’ve caught.
If others wonder why I’m missing
Just tell them I’ve gone fishing!
ONE AT REST
Think of me as one at rest,
for me you should not weep
I have no pain no troubled thoughts
for I am just asleep
The living thinking me that was,
is now forever still
And life goes on without me now,
as time forever will.
If your heart is heavy because I've gone away
Dwell not long upon it friend
For none of us can stay
Those of you who liked me,
I sincerely thank you all
And those of you who loved me,
I thank you most of all.
And in my fleeting lifespan,
as time went rushing by
I found some time to hesitate,
to laugh, to love, to cry
Matters it now if time began
If time will ever cease?
I was here, I used it all,
and now I am at peace.
THE LAST RACE
I liked a little gamble
A bet I loved to place
A rush of the adrenaline
I loved to watch the race
I studied all the form
Running heavy on the course
Sometimes picking colours
An eye on my favourite horse
For me it wasn’t gambling
It was a treasured way of life
It took my mind so far away
From troubles and from strife
So now it’s time for resting
I’ve passed the winners line
Think of me, a winning ticket
And how I lived this life of mine.
READINGS FOR FUNERALS
BLESSINGS FOR FUNERALS
Mum– as we say our farewells, we say thank you for all that you gave to us in life, the warmth of your love, your humour and friendship, your help, guidance, and wisdom and the joy that you brought when we were with you. While we will miss you with all our hearts, we are thankful that you now have the peace that you deserve.
Few hearts like hers/his, with virtue warm’d,
Few heads with knowledge so inform'd;
If there's another world, she/he lives in bliss;
If there is none, she/he made the best of this.
